Installing a game to your Xbox 360

So my Halo Reach disk got scratched. I won’t mention why or who, but I could load the game, get into matchmaking, then I would fail to load every single map. I tried custom games and it wouldn’t load any maps either. I went back to Halo 3 with my normal Halo partner, who thankfully was willing to compromise, but it just wasn’t the same. The dynamics are noticeably different now and we found ourselves playing the same people over and over. My partner heard from someone that in that situation you can borrow someone’s working version, install the game to the harddrive and then use your version to play online. Well they were right!

To install the game to the harddrive:

  1. Launch the Xbox dashboard.
  2. When you’re on the row that you can play the game, scroll over to Game library, then Recent games.
  3. Pull up the game you wish to install.  There will be an option to install the game.
  4. If you need to clean up space, Halo Reach took 6.6 gigs of space, it will prompt you to do so.  I found a ton of useless videos that I don’t remember downloading on my harddrive!
I took out the good disk, put my scratched one back in, booted up and got right into a game!  The fact there was no whirling noise was kind of odd, but nice in a way.  It was the quietest I’ve ever heard my Xbox.
