Free WordPress Blog hosting?

Posted by on March 8, 2013 in Opinion | 0 comments

I’ve recently been toying with the idea of hosting a few beta sites with .touchoftechnology.com subdomains. This means yourblogname.touchoftechnology.com. That’s a subdomain. Now I say a few because I’m not going to be in the business of competing with WordPress.com. I’d be offering completely free WordPress sites under a subdomain of touchoftechnology.com. How is this different than WordPress.com you ask? Well, for starters, you’d have complete control over your site. There’s a lot of limitations with what you can do with a WordPress.com account. With a Touch Of Tech blog, you will have complete control over your theme. This means you can ad in whatever plugins you want, whatever themes you want, whatever advertising you want (yeah, you can put Adsense ads in your blog and actually make money).

Let me know your interest in this. I was thinking of releasing about 20 sites. If they go over well, I may release a full service for a small fee each month. This is not going to be free web hosting. You will do all your editing through the WordPress Interface.

Proposed Feature Ideas

  • One Step Instant Signup.
  • Complete Control over your subdomain.
  • No required footers or forced advertising. (a link to touchoftechnology.com would be appreciated, but not forced in your theme.)
  • Automatic Updates. (IE the update files will be applied to your domain automatically when I get the update files from WordPress.)

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Just put them in the comments below. You can email me if you’d like to be one of the beta testers for this service. If there’s enough interest, I’ll make the project a go.
